Working at Height

Engineers, installers, apprentices and trades staff who use ladders and stepladders, work in lofts or over stairwells, or need access to roofs and flues.

What you will learn

  • Explain why falls from height are the biggest cause of deaths at work, and what counts as work at height
  • Follow the order avoid, prevent, minimise when planning work at height, and choose the right access equipment
  • Check, set up and use leaning ladders and stepladders safely
  • Work safely in lofts, over stairwells and near open hatches
  • Know when a job needs more than a ladder, and report falls and near misses
